This collaboration was extra fun because it involved two of my dearest friends, Heidi Miller with Mango Ink and Mandolyn Hume with Fannie’s Ice Pops. Both Heidi and Mandolyn run their business while also leading busy lives as wives and mothers. Even though the three of us own very different businesses we have learned a lot from each other over the years and I value their approach to business and life. Working with other small businesses and collaborating on a project together can be so beneficial to your own business. Read on to discover the benefits.

1. Connection + Community Building

Most of my work day is spent by myself behind my computer. When I have the chance to work with others, I am able to build on the connection we have and connection is good for your soul! Running your own business can be lonely and building connections is a key ingredient to building a community.

2. Exposure

When you work with others you gain exposure to other businesses and other businesses will be exposed to you! This is where I think social media can be a huge asset to your business. It’s so easy to share what you are working on and even highlight the other businesses that you are working with - thank you Instagram Stories. And when you share the work you are doing with other businesses, chances are they will share about you!

3. Educational

I listen to a lot of business podcasts, but nothing beats a face to face conversation with another small business owner. Working together often leads to sharing together. I love to learn about new resources, new apps to try, new shortcuts, and/or anything else that may help me be more efficient and productive.

4. Local

When you have a chance to work with another small business in your area, you are supporting local business. Supporting local business just feels good and is vital to our overall community.

5. Break up the Routine

I have a pretty good routine on my own in my home office, but I welcome the opportunity to break up that routine every once in a while for the chance to work with another small business. Breaking up your routine will stretch your mind, get those creative juices flowing, and maybe even breathe new life into your own business.
