graffiti

Steven | Class of 2015

In the 24 hours leading up to his session, Steven flew home from a family trip to Hawaii, went to a concert, spent a full day of school, and then somehow made it back downtown for his senior photos! His two requests were brick and graffiti...I think we accomplished both. We were shooting in a downtown alley when a woman walked passed us and asked if we noticed "the Shepard Fairey?"  Steven's mom, Kim, and I looked at one another with blank stares as neither of us had any idea of what she was talking about. Turns out, Shepard Fairey is a famous street artist and Steven knew exactly who he was. Cool coincidence...Steven is hoping to become a 3D illustrator and was quite familiar with Shepard Fairey's work for OBEY. I learned later that Fairey is the artist behind the HOPE poster, an iconic piece representing the 2008 Obama campaign. Scroll down to image #10 and #11 - you will see the original Shepard Fairey artwork right near Steven's left knee.

This was a great session. Perfect location, cool story, and one pretty awesome Mead senior! Thanks Steven!
