Spring Break 2016 | Newport Beach + Universal Studios

After 4 days in the theme parks, it was wonderful to slow down a little. We spent the day exploring Newport Beach and Balboa Island - lots of walking, beach time, and of course ice cream at Dads! We visited the very same ice cream shop 10 years ago and it's still just as yummy as ever! A highlight for me was getting a family picture on the beach together (thank you to the nice person walking by who snapped this for us) - it's the ONLY photo I have of all five of us together on this trip!

Our very last day was spent at Universal Studios in Los Angeles! It also happened to be the opening day of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! We booked our trip long before the date of opening day was actually announced, but our fingers were crossed that the timing would work out and sure enough opening day was set for the last day of our trip! Our twins were in HEAVEN! They have been fans for years and being able to walk through Hogsmeade was a dream come true! We spent most of our day here, but also enjoyed the Studio tour and seeing the Minions. And yes it was raining for most of the afternoon, but we still had a ball!

Spring Break 2016 | Disneyland + CA Adventure

Our last trip to Disneyland was in 2005; our twins were just 5 years old. I couldn't wait to go back and bring our youngest for the first time! We actually surprised Emi with this trip on the morning of her 4th birthday. She had no idea what to expect, but she was so happy about that little minnie mouse suitcase that was packed for her. We did it all...the rides, the parades, the princesses and we ate enough Mickey shaped ice cream bars and pretzels to last us until next time! Emi was a rockstar on this trip - up for anything and so easy going. Seeing her little face light up when she met Minnie Mouse is something I don't think I will ever forget. Disney does everything so well.

Lots of new things to see at Disney's California Adventure since our last visit as well; CARS LAND was all new to us and we loved it! I think we made it on to the Radiator Springs Racers 4x while we were there! We all enjoyed the World of Color show and Emi especially loved the Silly Symphony Swings!

Part 2 of our trip to California including Newport Beach + Universal Studios coming soon!

Spring Break 2014 | Oregon Coast

*Warning* LOTS of photos in this post! The Oregon Coast is SO beautiful and it was hard to narrow down the images!!

Spring Break 2015 is less than 3 weeks away for us - so I decided it was about time to finish editing our Spring Break trip from LAST year!! We spent a week on the Oregon Coast! A very relaxing trip and a great place for families and kids of all ages (our girls were 12, 12, and 2 at the time)! We drove to Portland the first day (I think it took us about 7 hours) and stayed the night with our dear friends, the McMurrays. They moved to Portland in 2013 and we were excited to see them in their new surroundings. Now, when I think about them (and miss them) at least I can picture where they live. Makes it feel like they aren't so far away. We spent the next day exploring Portland before heading to the coast in the afternoon. Highlights include a trip through Powell's Books, eating a Voodoo Doughnut (45 minute line!), and walking through some of the shops on NW 23rd (somewhat limited shopping due to 2 year old in tow!).

By the time we made it to Rockaway Beach it was dark and we couldn't see much or our surroundings. We woke up the next morning to a thick fog, but it was actually quite warm. It was one of those great lazy mornings with all the time in the world to explore. It was perfect.

We found the perfect "emi sized" playground right next to our beach house too. Just one small play structure, but she loved it.

Hailey and I convinced Hannah that we needed to do a beach photo session for her. I'm so glad we did it on this day as it turned out to be the warmest day of the week and the fog made for such an amazing back drop. I blogged my favorites from this session a long time ago  - see more here.

Love my photographer and dancer so much!

This was our "home" for the week!!!

We woke up to a little bit of rain on our 2nd morning and decided to go check out Short Sand Beach. This  beautiful spot is an easy 1/2 mile walk from the road and stroller friendly. So GREEN!

Rockaway is right on the Oregon Coast and sits about 30 minutes south of the Cannon Beach area and about 15 minutes north of Tillamook. It is tiny, but quaint. We walked through the entire town in about 15 minutes! There are several kite + trinket shops. :-)

We made a couple of trips to Cannon Beach during the week and made sure to stop at several of the viewpoints along the way - so beautiful! We loved the tide pools at Haystack Rock and of course chowder at Mo's!

A friend told me about Hug Point  - the perfect place to stop and watch the sunset! Another beautiful evening and fun place to explore!

We spent an afternoon in Tillamook. We toured the Tillamook Cheese Factory followed by ice cream cones! This was Emily's first ever cone! We then went on a short drive to find the Cape Meares Lighthouse and Octopus Tree.

Our last night and last sunset on the Oregon Coast! Hannah's hair is so funny in this photo! It was a bit windy! :-)

Thank you Oregon Coast for so many wonderful family memories! We hope to come back someday!

My Dancer

There is something so awesome about watching your child find that thing. You know, the thing that they are excited about and want to do all. the. time. And when they start talking about it you can almost see the passion lighting up inside them. Almost like they were just born to do it. You don’t have to ask them to practice – they just do it all on their own. And your heart kinda sings because you know how happy it makes them.

And sometimes it takes a while to discover, but when they find it….it is magical.

Hannah’s thing is dance. She’s worked so hard this year and improved so much. It’s pretty amazing to see the transformation.

Hannah dances at Dance Motionz. I am so grateful for her instructor, Lauren Stoudt, for having such a positive impact on Hannah's life this year. We love you Lauren!

United 2014 | Leaving A Mark Photography | Spokane Photographer

I recently attended United 2014 – a photography conference in Santa Barbara, CA. This conference was hosted by the company that created PASS, the gallery system I use. Through PASS, I became connected to a community of “Shoot & Share” Photographers where the focus is on sharing your gifts, serving others, and celebrating new photographers. Naturally the theme for United was – Share, Serve, Celebrate. This conference was a first for me. I learned about it last fall and registered without knowing a single person (another first for me! In the end, I did have a friend from Seattle join me - thank you Carol!). My husband was supportive from the moment I mentioned the idea to him…completely encouraging me every step of the way. He took 3 days off from work to be home with our toddler and shuttle our older girls back and forth to activities – this experience would not have been possible without him! Thank you Kyle!!

I arrived with little expectations – just hoping to soak in as much as possible. The four days were jam-packed with fun networking events, amazing styled shoots, fabulous meals, incredible teaching from industry leaders, powerful talks from well-known authors, and time to laugh, share, and connect with other photographers from all over the country. Just being in the same place with so many others that share the same passion and love for photography was incredibly empowering– nearly 400 of us! These are my people! I didn’t expect to shed as many tears as I did, but so many touching stories were shared and over an over again I was reminded of the importance of sharing our gifts and the extraordinary impact we have on one another.  I am so proud to be involved in a community like this and to call myself a Shoot & Share photographer.

A few of my favorite memories...

Some of my favorites from the Chasing Children shoot led by Jessica Drogosz and Eva Deitch- these were taken on the beach right in front of the Fess Harbor Hotel.

The Maternity shoot was led by Ann Keen. This beautiful mama is due in May and expecting her first baby girl. Isn't she beautiful!!

I have been home now for over a month and it took me this long to get my thoughts down in writing and honestly, it's hard to accurately describe such an incredible experience! The connections I made at United have already been such a huge blessing to me! I didn't expect to make such lasting friendships in such a short period of time. I am so grateful for this new found support system...counting down the days until United 2015!
